Chattanooga Metropolitan (CHA) is getting 300 new parking spaces.
Construction will begin in late May on a project necessitated by double-digit passenger growth. The projects will be completed by November, says Albert Waterhouse, spokesman.
Airport officials in late April approved plans for $3.4 million in improvements that will add the 300 spaces and a new economy lot. The additions will bring total spaces available to 1,600.
Passenger traffic rose in 2014 by nearly 14 percent, to 352,459 boardings, for the highest total since 1992. Boardings were up 14.4 percent through the first quarter of this year and officials say the goal is exceeding 400,000 passengers this year.
The new spaces will be added where an old hangar was torn down next to an existing intermediate parking lot.
