Chef Martin Yan Partners With HMSHost At SAN

Renowned San Francisco chef Martin Yan has put his stamp on the San Diego International Airport with the opening of Yan Can restaurant. The location, pre-security in Terminal 1, marks the first airport restaurant for Yan and is the results of a partnership with HMSHost Corp.

“Everything here is delicious, quick and absolutely wonderful,” promised Yan at the grand opening Feb. 20.

The menu of the 1,750-sq.-ft. restaurant features traditional favorites such as Kung Pao chicken, Mongolian beef and specialties including chicken lettuce wraps, veggie spring rolls and crispy pot stickers, as well as Yan’s signature Chinese chicken salad and other items.

Joe Lutz, senior vice president of West region operations for HMSHost, says Yan Can will appeal to consumers searching for healthier fare.

“One of the things we’ve noticed is consumers want fresh, healthy foods,” he says. “In years past, people said they wanted healthy food but they actually didn’t. Now it’s different.”

Yan Can is a fast-casual concept that features made-to-order food for eating in or take-out. The SAN location features a small seating area and a bar near the back of the restaurant.

The Yan Can opening is part of a revamp of the airport’s food and beverage offerings. Other concepts slated for 2008 opening include Brioche Doree Café© & Bakery, Chili’s Too, Quiznos and Starbucks Coffee.
