The Grove Inc. received an award from the Chicago Department of Aviation celebrating the company’s commitment to sustainability at O’Hare International (ORD).
The recognition marks The Grove’s achievement of the highest level of certification under the CDA Sustainable Airport Manual Concession & Tenants – Operation & Maintenance chapter. Company officials received their “mentor” award late last week during an event at its “Fresh Market on the Go” venue in Terminal 1 at ORD.
Several CDA representatives were on hand for the event. Airport officials note that TGI donated surplus food to Food Donation Connection and used 100 percent bio-based disposable products, such as napkins, paper, towels and cutlery. The company also procured 26 percent of its food products, including breads, pastries and other bakery items, from within 100 miles of the store and purchased 44 percent of food products, including cheese and yogurt, from within 250 miles of the store.
“TGI is committed to being a part of the CDA Green Concessions Program that makes such a large contribution in reducing our collective environmental impact,” says Michelle Dukler, president and CEO of The Grove. “It’s very important to everyone on the TGI team to achieve and maintain mentor status. It’s a great feeling to be part of a large effort toward making a positive and lasting contribution to environmental sustainability.”
