Cleveland-Hopkins International (CLE) will begin construction this week on a project aimed at improving ticketing and baggage-claim areas of the airport.
The Terminal External Facade and Ticketing Lobby Project is scheduled to begin May 13 and conclude in May 2016. It will modernize and upgrade the airport’s departures level ticketing lobby and facade, in an effort to improve the traveler’s experience, airport officials say.
“CLE is the first and last impression visitors get when coming to Cleveland,” says Ricky Smith, director. “We’re looking to improve that impression. During the construction, there will be inconveniences but we assure our passengers the finished project will meet their expectations. Meanwhile, we will take every step to minimize any inconvenience, while progressing the project to schedule.”
Airport officials say the improvements will include an upgrade to the existing exterior “skin” structural panels above the upper and lower roadway frontage sidewalk areas. There also will be enhancements to terminal frontages, lighting, exterior frontage glass and canopies, structural columns, doorway vestibules and sidewalks.
Terminal ticketing lobby improvements will include new lighting, skylight systems and color schemes; the baggage-claim level will see enhancements to the windows, entryways, exterior soffits and lighting.
Simultaneously, CLE will complete the second phase of a parking redevelopment that will install canopies in two surface parking lots.
