Clearing Customs Streamlined At Austin-Bergstrom International

International passengers arriving at Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS) will clear Customs and Border Protection faster now that airport officials have created a new process called “One-Stop.”

One-Stop allows passengers to pick up their checked luggage first before making a single stop at Customs and Border Protection’s admissibility booth, where both the passenger and luggage are cleared in one step.

The airport is among a few in the country to utilize the program for all international arrivals passengers, which shaves the time by up to 40 percent.

“The whole intent is to speed up the process,” says Patti Edwards, COO. “This new One-Stop process allows for the security that CBP needs and at the same time, streamlines the process for passengers coming through, making it quicker and more efficient for them and allowing the airport to provide better customer service.”

Most airports utilize a two-stop process where passengers first visit a CBP booth, showing their passport and other documents to clear, and then picking up their luggage for additional screening. The one-stop process has been available for about three months at AUS.
