The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) this week said that construction has started on a new, six-story parking garage that will service the expanded Terminal 5 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
The new garage is set to be completed in 2024 and will more than double the amount of available parking at the terminal with a mix of short- and long-term parking options that will enhance the curb to gate experience for travelers.
“These construction projects admittedly create disruptions to airport operations, but they are essential to providing safe, secure, and passenger-friendly facilities well in the future,” said CDA Commissioner Jamie Rhee. “Investment in our airports creates jobs, business opportunities and economic development in addition to future benefits for those traveling through our airports.”
The ORD Terminal 5 extension will open this fall, with additional renovations opening in phases through 2023. When completed, the revamped Terminal 5 will increase passenger amenity space by 66 percent, reconfigure the customs facilities, and replace the existing baggage handling system.
