San Antonio International (SAT) has broken ground on the consolidated car and public parking facility the San Antonio City Council approved in June.
The new facility, priced at $165.6 million, will be home to up to 13 rental car companies in one central lobby. There will also be a quick-turn-around facility for fueling, vacuuming and light maintenance and new short-term parking for travelers.
“Car rental customers are shuttled to rental agency locations, often inconveniencing or confusing them,” says Aviation Director Frank R. Miller. “The new CONRAC will be located a few steps from the terminals so customers will save time, and the need for shuttle service will be eliminated. Additionally, the facility will provide convenient short-term parking for travelers.”
The funding for the CONRAC is coming from the customer facility charge paid by travelers renting a vehicle at the airport. The expected completion date is March 2018.
“The airport is critical to the growth of our city,” says Ivy R. Taylor, mayor of San Antonio. “It is important to invest in our infrastructure to ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of tomorrow’s travelers.”
