The San Antonio City Council approved the construction of a consolidated rental car facility at San Antonio International (SAT) on Thursday. The project, once completed, will consist of a seven-story, 1.5 million-square-foot facility.
The facility, which will replace the airport’s hourly parking garage, will include short-term public parking, a customer service center with up to 13 car rental brands and a space for fueling, vacuuming, washing and light maintenance.
“Travelers using the consolidated rental car facility will enjoy a more convenient experience as they travel to and from SAT,” says Aviation Director Frank R. Miller. “The new facility will reduce traffic congestion around the airport and will make it easier for customers who park at the airport.”
The CONRAC will be located across from the airport terminals and be accessible by a pedestrian sky bridge. A free shuttle will be provided at all of the airport’s parking options.
“San Antonio International plays a critical role in our economy,” says San Antonio Mayor Ivy R. Taylor. “Improvements like this are critical to addressing customer needs and positioning the airport for future success.”
The financing for the project is coming from customer facility charges, which are only paid by travelers renting a car at the airport. The facility is expected to open in March 2018.
