Continental Experimenting With Self-Boarding At IAH

Continental Airlines is testing a “self-boarding” process at George Bush Intercontinental (IAH).

Passengers swipe their boarding pass at a kiosk, which opens the turnstile to the jetway. The airline declined to say at which gate the test was being conducted, only that it was on Terminal E and serving both domestic and international flights.

“We’re pleased with our initial testing,” says Christen David, spokeswoman for Continental. “What we’re finding is our self-boarding gate is freeing up our agents’ time.”

David says feedback so far has been positive, but the program is “in the very early testing phases.”

“Until we know what it means, we don’t plan to do a massive debut,” she says.
