Delaware North Named Employer Of Year By WOW

Work Options for Women has given its Employer of the Year award to Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services at Denver International (DEN). The company accepted the award at a May 12 ceremony.

The nonprofit organization focuses on helping low-income women succeed. It has been working to break the poverty cycle and help women become more self-sufficient since 1997.

“Over the last 19 to 20 months, Delaware North Companies has accepted 12 candidates from WOW and hired 10,” says Teri Redl, human resources manager for Travel Hospitality Services at DEN. “Within our own unit, we have retained eight program participants; one went to a Delaware North Texas unit, and the other two left the company because they moved out of state. We’ve also had a male associate who came through the WOW program.”

Program participants take a 16-week culinary course that teaches service, kitchen and cooking skills. Almost half of the women in the program are homeless and don’t have a high school or GED education.

Once women finish the training, Delaware North offers a two-week internship; after that, the company decides whether to hire the candidates.
