You’ve heard of food being delivered to your home, and even to your car, but to your gate?
Delaware North Cos. is testing the idea at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL).
The program debuted in FLL’s Terminal 1/Concourse B area about two months ago and is available during peak travel times. DNC staff walks through the gate area to take orders off a limited menu made up of items from the company’s restaurants. The food is then delivered to the passengers, saving them the need to leave the gate.
Prices on the menu are the same as if the customer had gone to the eatery himself says Nick Biello, chief operating officer of the company’s travel hospitality division. He says customers and the airport alike are pleased with the service.
“It has been very positively received by the airport and the airlines,” he says. “Southwest Airlines made an announcement about this service in their hold rooms.”
The company plans to roll out to other terminals at FLL, he says.
