DEN Announces Opportunities, Will Provide Seminar

Denver International (DEN) has announced that it will seek bids on 14 new shopping and dining locations in addition to a common-use passenger lounge. The airport also will seek bids for convenience retail for the upcoming public transit center and a brewery-themed restaurant for the Westin hotel, which is under construction.

“The airport is looking for proposals to enhance our growing lineup of local treasures along with world-class shopping and dining options, in our efforts to enhance our customers’ experiences,” says Kim Day, CEO of DEN. “We are actively seeking concepts that will provide quality and variety while meeting the escalating expectation of the traveling public, while simultaneously creating a sense of place at DIA.”

In an announcement, DEN states that 11 requests for proposals representing 14 concession opportunities will be released in November. The airport has listed the locations on its 90-day list of upcoming opportunities on its website. For a list of what is to be available, click here.

“Denver International is the fifth-busiest airport in the United States, with more than 140,000 people passing through every day,” says Neil Maxfield, acting director of concessions for DEN. “Due to expiring leases, this is the first time since the airport opened more than 19 years ago that we have been able to offer so many business opportunities at one time. It’s the perfect time for entrepreneurs to get their foot into the airport marketplace and provide new amenities to millions of travelers in Denver each year.”

The airport will be providing a free seminar for interested parties during its annual DIA Day on Oct. 7. The seminar will provide an overview on how to do business at the airport.
DEN’s 170,000-square-foot concession program includes more than 140 locations. According to the airport’s release, in 2013 the program generated a record $249.8 million in gross revenue.
