Denver International Airport (DEN) executives this week joined Southwest Airlines and local public officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of 16 new gates on the airport’s Concourse C.
The new gates are being leased by Southwest and will allow the airline to continue growing its operations at DEN. The 530,000-square-foot expansion area includes 16 new gates and additional airline support areas. Passenger amenities in the expanded space include an outdoor patio, comfortable seating options, charging stations, new restrooms, nursing rooms, pet relief areas and more.
The Concourse C expansion will also feature eight new shopping and dining options that will open in 2023, including Black Canyon Market and Goods; Longs Peak Market and Goods; Aviano Coffee; Mister Oso; Bar Dough; Cholon Modern Asia; Marcyzk Fine Foods; and Teatulia Tea and Coffee Bar.
The new gates are part of the Gate Expansion Program that at its completion will have added 39 gates across all three DEN concourses, increasing gate capacity by 30 percent and improving the passenger experience by adding new amenities, including three outdoor decks. Concourse C is the second of four expansion areas to be completed with the remaining two areas on Concourses A-West and B-East opening this fall.
“The Gate Expansion Program is just one way we are growing our infrastructure to ensure we are prepared for 100 million passengers in the next eight to 10 years,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “These new gates will not only allow one of our largest carriers to expand at DEN but provide our passengers with more options and an improved experience.”
