Denver International (DEN) has been recognized with the 2014 Natural Gas Vehicle Achievement Award from the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation for using natural gas in its fleet of vehicles.
DEN’s fleet includes 1,750 vehicles and pieces of equipment ranging in size from snow removal and fire fighting trucks to lighter-duty equipment, such as concrete saws. By switching much of that fleet to natural gas, the airport prevented more than 3.3 million pounds of carbon-dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere in 2013, according to airport officials.
“We take great pride in having one of the most efficient and environmentally conscious vehicle fleets in North America,” says Dave LaPorte, deputy manager of aviation for airport infrastructure management. “We are proud to be recognized with this award, and we will continue to invest in sustainability throughout all of our operations.”
