DFW Contracts With View For Smart Windows

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has awarded a contract to dynamic glass marketer View to install up to 500,000 square feet of smart windows in DFW’s passenger terminals.

“After testing Dynamic Glass in our terminals, we were thrilled to see the positive effects on the customer experience and look forward to installing the glass in locations that will have the greatest impact on our customers and our employees,” says Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW.

A recent study at DFW’s Gate A28 and a nearby restaurant showed that View dynamic glass significantly improved passenger comfort over conventional glass, resulting in an 83 percent increase in passenger dwell time at preferred gate seating and a 102 percent increase in concession sales. The glass also demonstrated the ability to reduce HVAC and lighting energy usage by up to 15 percent in terminals during peak periods, therefore significantly reducing carbon emissions.

The dynamic glass “intelligently transitions” through multiple tint states to control the sun’s energy and minimize glare and heat, providing an enhanced occupant experience, optimum natural light and superior thermal comfort, the company says.

View Dynamic Glass has been installed at several airports to date, including Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
