Officials from Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW), the city of Coppell, Texas, and joint venture developers Hillwood Investment Properties and Perot Development Co. cut the ribbon this week for Logistics Center I, the largest non-terminal building ever built at the airport.
The nearly 1.1 million-square-foot, cross-dock facility in Coppell is situated on 60 acres near thoroughfares including three interstate highways, two state highways and the President George Bush Turnpike. It has more than 200 dock doors, 550 car parking positions, 500 trailer storage positions, 60 shipping bays, and proximity to FedEx and UPS regional hubs, air cargo areas and major freight forwarders at the airport.
The facility was built on a speculative basis but has generated strong interest in the market, airport officials say. The developers plan to break ground later this year on Logistics Center II, an adjacent facility, planned for just over 1 million square feet on another 60 acres.
DFW has several locations on airport property that are used by global logistics companies and for distribution and warehouse facilities.
“The development of this facility at DFW Airport underscores the advantages our central location offers as a major hub of global logistics,” says Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW. “Over the last four years, DFW has had tremendous growth in international air service, which is also very important for air cargo connections and for logistics companies serving the industry. To serve these growing international routes with air cargo, we need facilities like this new logistics center to connect goods through DFW to the world.”
