Four concessionaires will split a total of 15 food and beverage locations in the North Terminal of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW).
The 10-year contracts include seven local Metro Detroit-based concepts, as well as national and international brands.
“Most of the North Terminal’s passengers are local residents or visitors to our area; they’re not connecting in Detroit to fly to other cities,” says Greg Hatcher, DTW’s concessions director. “When they’re in our terminal, we believe passengers will enjoy seeing local brands they love and those that pique their interest.”
Construction will begin on the nearly $21 million transformation in the fall. It will occur in phases to ensure a variety of food options is always available for customers.
“For the first time since the North Terminal opened in 2008, we’re completely refreshing our food and beverage program,” says Chad Newton, the interim CEO at DTW. “The concessionaires were selected after a rigorous evaluation process. All four have experience operating at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and exceed our requirements for partnering with ACDBEs – Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprises.”
With its package of nine brands, HMSHost Corp. has the most locations in the overhaul. In a statement, the company says it’s excited to retain a relationship with DTW.
