An organization that measured the average Wi-Fi speed over a 45-day period at hotels, airports and beaches determined that Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW) has the fastest connectivity in the U.S.
The recognition comes from Wefi, a mobile intelligence and network analytics company. Wefi collected data from more than 45 million hotspots. The metrics used for comparison are based on a 45-day average of Wi-Fi speeds at each location between April and mid-June.
“With the demand for wireless connectivity stronger than ever, enhancing our airport’s public Wi-Fi service has been a priority for our airport management team,” says Tom Naughton, CEO of DTW. “Customers are enjoying the increased network speeds, and we view this as one more way we can help create a seamless and enjoyable airport experience for our travelers.”
DTW went through a significant upgrade to its wireless network last fall.
The airport’s average speed during that period was 4.63 megabits per second. In the airport category, Denver International (DEN) at 4.33 mbps, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) at 3.74 mbps, Los Angeles International (LAX) at 3.29 mbps and Washington Dulles International (IAD) at 3.09 mbps rounded out the top five.
