Edge4Vets, which works with veterans on translating their military skills into success in the civilian work world, has created a collaboration with the City University of New York’s 24 schools aimed at preparing veterans from that school for jobs at John F. Kennedy International (JFK).
Edge4Vets at Airports will be a five-hour workshop March 31, offered by the Human Resiliency Institute at Fordham University. It will teach CUNY veterans how to identify values and skills they developed in the military and apply them for job opportunities with partner companies assembled at the event, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Golden Touch, HMSHost Corp., Hudson Group, OTG Management and others. Employees from these companies will participate in the workshop as mentors, providing feedback and support for the veterans as they learn to translate their skills.
A follow-up workshop will be held April 29 during which human resources representatives from partner companies will connect the “job ready” veterans from the first workshop to job interviews with the various companies that interest them. The first event will be sponsored by JFKIAT, which operates Terminal 4 at JFK, and hosted by Accommodations Plus International and the Radisson JFK in Jamaica, N.Y.
