Delta Air Lines, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and JFK International Air Terminal LLC unveiled the next phase of expansion of Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International (JFK).
The $175 million project adds 11 gates and 75,000 square feet to the terminal’s Concourse B and continues the airline’s investments in enhancing the building.
“The newest enhancements at Terminal 4 underscore the significant investment Delta is making in New York City’s airports – nearly $2 billion over the last six years,” says Ed Bastian, Delta’s president. “Our customers and employees are benefitting from substantial enhancements to our JFK operations, and we thank our partners … for working with Delta to create world-class facility that meets – and, we believe, exceeds – the expectations of today’s modern travelers.”
As part of this investment, the airline is relocating the majority of its Delta Connection flights at JFK Terminal 2 to the expanded B Concourse in Terminal 4. This is expected to streamline travel for those with connecting flights at JFK and enhance access to amenities at both terminals.
“Delta’s Terminal 4 at JFK is a world-class entrance to the Big Apple, and with 11 brand-new gates and more area in the B Concourse, this expansion will further enhance visitors’ first impressions of this great city,” said Senator Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. “I applaud Delta for investing in this nearly $200 million job-creating expansion project, as well as the port authority and JFKIAT for their hard work in making this project a reality.”
The expansion also facilitates intra-terminal connections with the addition of a new JFK Jitney bus stop at the end of Concourse B in Terminal 4 to the new gates. It will complement existing stops located by gate B18 at the base of Concourse B and by gate C60 at Terminal 2.
JFKIAT has operated Terminal 4 for more than a decade. The expansion comes on the heels of a $1.2 billion redevelopment of the terminal, which opened in May 2013. That project added nine new and seven renovated international gates, improved check-in areas, a centralized security checkpoint and new dining and retail offerings.
“JFKIAT is pleased to join Delta to unveil the latest expansion at JFK Terminal 4,” says Gert-Jan de Graaff, president and CEO of JFKIAT. “We applaud the company’s commitment to develop an infrastructure at JFK that truly caters to the modern traveler.”
