FAA Puts Slot Auctions At EWR On Back Burner

A slot auction planned for this week at Newark Liberty International (EWR) has been postponed after airlines and New York-area airports strongly opposed it.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Dispute Resolution for Acquisition decided to delay the auction, which was slated for Wednesday, for two slots at EWR in response to a request from airlines.

The auctions are intended to reduce congestion and increase competition at the three airports run by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
