FAA, TSA Give Denver International More Than $22M In Grants

The Transportation Security Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration gave Denver International (DEN) a total of $37,363,832 in federal grants in August and September; the airport plans to use the money for airport improvement projects.

“The funding we receive from the FAA and TSA is vital to our mission within the national airspace system,” says Aviation Manager Kim Day. “These grants will provide for required maintenance and security enhancements. The collaboration and support we receive from our partner agencies is essential in both our physical and fiscal missions, as this money offsets what it costs airlines to operate at DIA.”

The FAA gave the airport $22,194,394 for airfield maintenance: 11.6M will help complete rehabilitation work on Runway 8/26; more than $1.7M will be used to rehabilitate the taxiway system around the Jeppesen Terminal; and $8.7M will go toward the rehabilitation of Runway 16L34R.

The approximately $15M the TSA gave the airport will be used for improving the baggage-screening system. The funding is slated to be used for upgrades to the checked baggage resolution areas, used by the TSA for bag processing and checked-bag screening.
