Miami International Airport (MIA) has renovated its federal inspection facility for international arrivals in Concourse E. The facility is now completely dedicated to providing expedited passport screening through facial recognition technology that matches a traveler’s identity to the documents he or she presents. It is the first such facility in the United States.
MIA first launched its facial recognition pilot program in November 2017, increasing the screening speed of the facility to accommodate as many as ten passengers per minute. In addition to this technological upgrade, the updates to Concourse E have reduced the distance passengers from Concourses E and F need to walk access the passport hall.
Passport clearance is also available at this location through Global Entry kiosks and the Mobile Passport Control app for select flights.
“Improving customer service through technology and innovation is our highest priority at MIA,” says Miami-Dade Aviation Director Lester Sola. “We are proud to partner with [U.S. Customs and Border Protection] on this new technology, which has significantly reduced wait times for our international passengers.”
