FAT Opens Mothers Room

Mothers traveling through Fresno Yosemite International (FAT) now have a space devoted to their needs.

California Assembly Bill 1787, which was passed in September 2014, requires airports with more than 1,000,000 annual enplanements to provide a room for nursing mothers by January 2016. The bill requires smaller airports to add the rooms when there is a terminal expansion or renovation.

FAT constructed its Mothers Room by converting part of an existing storage area.

“We seized the opportunity to support family-friendly amenities for passengers and employees, while staying ahead of the curve on airport express room requirements,” says Kevin Meikle, director of aviation at FAT. “Without taking on a major renovation project, we were able to provide this accommodation for traveling and working mothers.”

The room is located post-security in the passageway to the boarding gates and includes seating, electrical outlets and a granite countertop with a sink.
