First TSA PreCheck Application Site In Southeast Opens At ATL

The first TSA PreCheck application site in the Southeast has opened at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL).

PreCheck is an expedited screening program that does not require travelers to remove their shoes, light outerwear and belts; allows them to keep their laptop in its case; and allows them to keep 3-1-1-compliant liquids and gels bag in a carry-on bag.

“At the world’s busiest passenger airport, we are continually working to improve the traveler experience,” says Hartsfield-Jackson Interim General Manager Miguel Southwell. “The addition of a TSA PreCheck application center at Hartsfield-Jackson will provide our customers the ability to move more quickly through the security screening process once a traveler’s application is approved.”

The center at ATL is one of six in the United States. It can be found next to Gate A19. Walk-in appointments are allowed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Under the program, U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents undergo a pre-enrollment process online at www.tsa.gov and visit an application center to provide biographic information such as name, date of birth and address; fingerprints; valid identity and citizenship/immigration documentation; and an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership.

Once approved, travelers are given a Known Traveler Number and are able to use the TSA PreCheck lanes at security checkpoints at more than 100 participating airports and on nine major U.S. airlines. The TSA, however, will continue to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

“This new application process will greatly increase the availability of TSA PreCheck benefits to a broader population of travelers nationwide,” said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. “TSA PreCheck is enabling us to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to transportation security, as we look for more opportunities to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way.”
