Fraport Wins Contract At MWAA

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) has awarded Fraport Washington Partnership LLC (Fraport USA) a ten-year contract to lease, develop and manage the concessions program at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

The contract is currently held by MarketPlace Development, which has served as concessions manager at both airports since 2012.

Under the new contract with the MWAA, effective in January 2024, Fraport USA will be responsible for day-to-day management of the concessions program at both airports, including the planning, leasing, and construction and operations oversight of concession locations to enhance the customer experience. Combined the airports feature approximately 260,000 square feet of concessions space.

“We are thrilled to have been entrusted with this significant program,” said Sabine Trenk, CEO of Fraport USA. “Our team is excited to bring innovative solutions and a fresh approach to the retail and food & beverage concession program.”

Fraport USA said that it will oversee a concessions program that will focus on further enhancing the airport experience for passengers by leveraging the uniqueness of this capital region. As part of the approach, the company said it is committed to supporting small businesses from the region and the inclusion of a diverse range of vendors to cater to a wider audience.

As part of that effort, Fraport USA will partner with Dr. Gina Merritt, forming Fraport Washington Partnership LLC. Merritt is a local minority business leader with a proven track record in supporting underserved communities through real estate and workforce development projects.
