McCarran International (LAS) is giving drivers who have been cited for parking violations a new way to pay their fines: on the airport’s Web site.
Previously, citation recipients were required to return to the airport to pay their fines in person using a cash or credit card, or by mail using a check or money order. The Internet option makes it easier for those living outside Las Vegas to make a payment.
The citation amount is cut in half if drivers pay within 10 days of the violation; if the violation is paid within 31 to 60 days, it is subject to additional late fees, with further penalties if not paid within 61 days. If not paid within 60 days, the Department of Motor Vehicles is notified, which could impede a driver’s ability to register his vehicle until the violation is resolved.
To pay online, drivers can go to mccarran.com and click on “Pay Parking Citations” on the home page or within the Ground Transportation section. Drivers are then asked to enter the citation number or vehicles’ license plate number, select the citation and enter payment information; Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are accepted.
Commercial vehicle drivers issued citations at the airport can also use the new online payment option.
