Grab Expands, Airport Sherpa Begins Service at DFW

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has launched a pilot-program that aims to ease the airport concessions experience for travelers by offering convenient ordering and quick delivery. Grab, a mobile app that allows guests to pre-order items and pick them up, and Airport Sherpa, which offers food and retail delivery, are partnering to serve fliers.

The new service takes form in three kiosks in Terminal C, all of which allow airport guests to pre-order food and drinks from any participating restaurant in that terminal. Customers can either pick their food up as usual or elect to have their purchase delivered to them by Airport Sherpa in twenty minutes or less.

The Grab self-service kiosks feature two touch-screens with point-to-point encrypted payment devices; this setup lets travelers browse and order from partners such as Bánh Shop, Caribou Coffee/Einstein Bros. Bagels, Chili’s, Freshens, Maggiano’s, Pizza Hut, Shake Shack and Friday’s. After placing their order, update alerts will be sent directly to guests’ phones either telling them it’s time to pick up, or that their Airport Sherpa representative is on the way with their food.

“More than half of our customers are connecting to another flight, and these kiosks will provide a convenient solution for them to order food on the go,” says Zenola Campbell, vice president, concessions at DFW. “DFW Airport continually looks for ways to improve the customer experience, and we will monitor the pilot program to determine whether it will be expanded to other terminals.”
