GRR Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Gerald R. Ford International (GRR) will commemorate 50 years of servicing West Michigan this month with a community celebration and an event benefiting Special Olympics Michigan.

Airport Day on July 19 will include aircraft displays, skydivers, activities for kids, giveaways, 50-cent hot dogs, chips and other foods.

Details on a Plane Pull, which will involve 25-person teams, are still being finalized but the event will benefit the Special Olympics charity, which raises money for nearly 20,000 athletes to participate in programs across the state.

“We have been celebrating our 50th anniversary throughout the year, but this celebration is to thank the West Michigan community for supporting our local airport and local jobs,” said GRR Executive Director Brian Ryks. “We hope people come out and enjoy a pure Michigan summer day and some free family fun.”

The 50th Anniversary Airport Day & Plane Pull celebration will take place at the Air Cargo and Trade Center on the east side of the airfield.
