The Airports Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program has recognized Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) with a Level 2 designation. GRR has earned a Level 2 accreditation for its work to reduce carbon emissions through initiatives like transitioning light fixtures to LEDs; adding light sensors in restrooms, private offices and passenger spaces as well as focusing on energy efficient design in the newly expanded Concourse A. GRR aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions per passenger by 20% from 2021 levels by 2035 through a carbon management plan.
“We are thrilled to receive this certification as it underscores our commitment to sustainable aviation and responsible carbon management,” said Michelle Baker, environmental manager for the Ford International Airport Authority. “Our team has worked incredibly hard over the past three years to reduce emissions.”
