HDS Retail North America has introduced its first standalone food and beverage stores at Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS). The two new concepts are Ruta Maya Coffee and ThunderCloud Subs. HDS was also awarded a five-year contract extension at the airport including a location for its signature Virgin Books & Entertainment store. This will add to an extensive program that already includes Stars of Austin, Austin Article, Barton Springs Boutique and Sierra News.
“We are excited to add Ruta Maya & Thundercloud to the list of local choices at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. From Thundercloud’s healthy concept to Ruta Maya’s traditional coffee, both will bring a unique Austin flavor to the airport’s travelers and employees.” said Jamy Kazanoff, Assistant Director, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
Founded in 1990, Ruta Maya Coffee House evolved from a tiny coffee operation to a well established and highly respected local coffee house and roaster in Austin, Texas. Known for its 100 percent organic Arabica coffee beans and fast & friendly service with a smile, it created a marketplace of superior products from Latin American countries.
Known as “Austin’s sub shop,” Thundercloud Subs has been serving fresh sandwiches and salads to the local community for over 30 years. Currently operating 27 locations in the South Texas region, this will be the company’s first airport location.
“We feel privileged to be part of Austin-Bergstrom International and are committed to invest in further enhancing the airport’s very successful concessions program,” says Jeff Sailer, vice president of development and diversity for HDS. “We thank Jim Smith and his team for their continued support. We are also very excited to introduce two local icons to the airport in Ruta Maya Coffee and ThunderCloud Subs – this is what Austin is all about!”
