HMSHost, Culinary Institute Join Forces

HMSHost Corp. and The Culinary Institute of America have created a five-year partnership to benefit travelers and chefs alike.

As part of the partnership, HMSHost will participate in the institute’s externship program, which includes more than 1,000 restaurants and resorts. As part of the program, designed to sharpen students’ culinary technique skills, about 70 degree students will leave the college every three weeks to study in a real restaurant setting. As part of HMSHost’s program, students will be offered the option of studying in airports with multiple restaurant formats, including quick-service, quick-casual and fine dining.

“This partnership with the world’s premier culinary college forges new ground in providing exceptional dining for people on the move,” says Vince Modica, senior vice president for HMSHost. “At HMSHost, we strive to make the traveler’s day better in as many ways as possible, and now we can increase our innovation and expertise in tandem with the highest level of culinary expertise.”

The institute will also give HMSHost a customized training program, as well consult on menus and trends.

“We view HMSHost as a unique opportunity to have our students receive culinary training that will truly benefit them in the real world, and we see a great fit for many future collaborative projects,” says Ron DeSantis, director of CIA Consulting.
