HMSHost, Hudson, Paradies Awarded Contracts At SNA

The Orange County Board of Supervisors has approved contracts with three companies to operate concessions at John Wayne (SNA): HMSHost Corp., Hudson Group and The Paradies Shops.

HMSHost has been awarded a 10-year contract at the airport. The company will spend $15.6M to remodel its existing locations in Terminals A and B and to build new spaces in Terminal C.

“The combination of restaurant concepts and menu items proposed by HMSHost promises to bring the flavor of Orange County to John Wayne Airport and, importantly, the variety our passengers have asked for,” says Alan L. Murphy, airport director.

HMSHost has been the primary food and beverage operator at JWA since 1990.

“HMSHost thanks the airport and is grateful to the Board of Supervisors for selecting our proposal that included signature local restaurants,” says Anthony Alessi, vice president of business development for HMSHost. “Along with our local partners, we look forward to continuing the great relationship we’ve had with John Wayne Airport and bringing these exciting Orange County icons to travelers.”

Between Terminals A and B will be Ruby’s Diner, Ruby’s Shake Shack, The Fresh Market, Marketplace (Terminal C), Javi’s (Javier’s Cantina & Grill), Zov’s Bistro, Pei Wei Asian Diner, Jerry’s Wood-Fired Dogs and Pinkberry; other dining options will include California Pizza Kitchen (Terminal A), Hobi Hut (Terminal B), Anaheim Ducks Slapshot Bar & Grill (Terminal C), Starbucks (all three terminals), Zov’s Bistro (Terminal A, pre-security), La Tapenade Mediterranean Café© (Terminal B, pre-security) and Ciao Gourmet Market (Terminal C, post-security news wall).

Hudson Group will operate four news and gift stores in Terminal A and one in Terminal C.

“Hudson Group has partnered with a variety of local tourist destinations to showcase some of the best of Orange County to the traveling public,” Murphy says. “Hudson’s exciting new store concepts, substantial experience and great customer service will be an invaluable asset to our customers.”

Included in the Discover Orange County section of the Terminal A Hudson News news and gift store will be Orange County attractions that promote local culture, including Mission San Juan Capistrano, Bowers Museum and the Richard M. Nixon Library.

Hudson News will also feature Tech on the Go portable electronics and live CNN news programs for in-store viewing.

The company’s new concession in Terminal A will be a dual-themed store offering Rip Curl and Sunglass Hut merchandise.

Hudson Group and its partners currently operate Hudson News in Terminal A, which includes a news wall, one pre- and one post-security news and gift store, and a specialty retail operation featuring Sunglass Hut and Life is good merchandise.

“Hudson is delighted to continue to invest and expand operations at John Wayne Airport, which is making great strides due to its clear vision and superb management,” says President and CEO Joe DiDomizio. “We are equally pleased with our ongoing partnership with terrific local operators Reuben Martinez, his daughter Tricia Sanchez and her husband, Tony.”

Finally, The Paradies Shops will bring both locally inspired and nationally branded stores to Terminals B and C.

“Paradies has provided excellent customer service to Orange County travelers for more than 20 years,” says Murphy. “We are delighted that Paradies will be staying at John Wayne Airport and will bring our customers some very exciting new concepts and merchandise.”

South Coast News in Terminal B and Beachfront News in Terminal C will offer regional merchandise; Beachfront News will also offer six surf cams, giving shoppers a view of local beaches. Both stores will offer Paradies’ Read and Return program, as well as the Recharge! Concept, which allows customers to charge laptops, PDAs and cell phones in a secure environment.

In Terminal C, Paradies will offer a BlackBerry store, selling smart phones from several wireless service providers, along with accessories. In the new section of the terminal, there will be an OC TravelMart, a pre-security store inspired by the agricultural past of Orange County that offers Diedrich Coffee and pre-packaged foods. Paradies will also expand CNBC News, with plasma screens at the pre-security CNBC Express locations in Terminal B and a news wall in Terminal C.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected to operate the news and gift stores in Terminal B and Terminal C at John Wayne Airport,” says Gregg Paradies, President and CEO. “John Wayne Airport is one of the finest and most beautifully designed airports in the US and we are proud to continue to offer the travelers of JWA a variety of concepts with both local and national appeal.”
