HMSHost Participates In 100,000 Opportunities Initiative Event

HMSHost Corp. is looking to provide job opportunities for America’s youth through a new initiative led by Starbucks.

The 100,000 Opportunities Initiative involves an employer-led coalition creating employment opportunities for 100,000 16- to 24-year-olds by 2018. This will be accomplished through apprenticeships, internships, training programs, and part-time and full-time jobs.

“We are very excited to be part of this 100,000 Opportunities Initiative to hire Opportunity Youth,” says Steve Johnson, president and CEO of HMSHost. “While this initiative will help young Chicagoans find valuable employment, it will also be a great opportunity for us to identify and hire talented youth that will enrich our workforce and ultimately the customer experience we strive to deliver. We look forward to working alongside our fellow employers to bring the goal of 100,000 Opportunities to reality.”

HMSHost was represented at the Opportunity Fair & Forum for Opportunity Youth on Aug. 13 in Chicago. At the event, HMSHost and the other participating companies extended 600 on-the-spot job offers.

“I can’t tell you enough how proud we are to be a part of this coalition,” says Johnson. “We’ve hired nearly 40 youth through this first event and are committed to hiring 5,000 more in the months ahead.”
