HMSHost Wins 2 Contracts, Opens New Restaurant

HMSHost Corp. has won contracts at two airports and has opened a new dining option at another.

The company was awarded a 10-year restaurant concessions agreement at Sacramento International (SMF) that will bring in local favorites to the airport in Esquire Grill, Burgers & Brew and Starbucks.

“We have enjoyed a successful partnership with HMSHost and we look forward to the exciting new restaurants they are bringing to Sacramento International,” says G. Hardy Acree, director of airports, Sacramento County Airport System. “They represent some of the best of our city’s dining offerings.”

Esquire Grill, known for attracting the Sacramento business and political community, city visitors and convention-goers, will feature items on the local menu including Dungeness Crab Louie, spicy Ahi tuna burger, and house-made macaroni and cheese. At Burgers & Brew, guests will find traditional burger options as well as more adventurous selections, including the Great American Hamburger and the Applewood-smoked bacon and cheddar cheeseburger. Starbucks will offer its coffee drinks, as well as pastries, sandwiches and salads.

“We are extremely proud to bring Esquire Grill, Burgers & Brew, and Starbucks Coffee to the new terminal to make the traveler’s day better,” says Joe Waller, vice president of business development for HMSHost.

The company has also announced the award of another 10-year contract, this one for retail concessions at San Francisco International (SFO).

Kiehl’s and MANGO will highlight the new retail shops that will open post-security in the newly renovated Terminal 2, as will a Starbucks.

“SFO has always strived to provide a wide-variety of retail options to meet our passengers’ needs,” says Airport Director John L. Martin. “The addition of HMSHost and its shops to the Terminal 2 line-up will continue that trend and ensure our travelers have an enjoyable experience whenever they fly in and out of San Francisco International Airport.”

When the renovated domestic terminal opens in the spring, it will be home to American Airlines and Virgin America; once finished, there will be about 30,000 sq. ft. of amenities including retail, restaurants and a spa.

Kiehl’s offers skin, body and hair products for men, women, children and pets. SFO News Express will feature newspapers, magazines and periodicals, along with snacks and beverages. At MANGO, travelers will find fashion apparel and accessories for women. And at Sunset News, customers will find up-to-the-minute news and information through technology and special presentations shown on flat-screen monitors; it will also feature Postcards from San Francisco, a shop-in-shop regional gift and souvenir store featuring selections from local and regional brand names, along with candy and snacks.

“These are strong retail brands that enjoy a loyal following among travelers who have told us they love finding them in the airport concourse,” says Renee Tedesco, vice president of business development for HMSHost. We’re pleased to make them available to San Francisco passengers.

Finally, at Chicago O’Hare International (ORD), HMSHost has brought in Wicker Park Seafood & Sushi Bar.

The restaurant, named for the city’s famed Wicker Park neighborhood, will feature a chef-driven menu of sushi favorites. The 104-seat eatery can be found post-security in Terminal 2.

“We are delighted to welcome Wicker Park Seafood and Sushi Bar to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport,” says Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “This new restaurant will provide travelers with healthy and innovative international food choices that reflect our city’s multi-cultural population. O’Hare is the global gateway to our city and region, and we strive to meet Mayor Richard M. Daley’s vision to include Chicago’s iconic businesses, restaurants, products and cultural aspects in our airports.”

The menu is directed by HMSHost’s sushi chef, Susumu Shibata. The native of Japan began his sushi career at Mothashi Restaurant in Tokyo and has lived in the United States for more than 25 years.

His menu at Wicker Park will offer nigiri, sashimi, maki, entré©e salads and other options. Special rolls, such as the Wicker Park Tidal Wave or the Special Veggie Roll can be found on the menu. Dessert options include the Maui Roll, Banana Roll and Green Tea Tiramisu. Beverages include warm and cold sake, Sho chu, and other cocktails, wine and beer. Grab-and-go options are available in the display case adjacent to the bar.

“We’re very proud of our partnership with the Chicago Department of Aviation and are excited to open this new restaurant highlighting trendy, flavorful fare in a contemporary setting, just in time for holiday travelers,” says said Stephen Douglas, vice president of business development for HMSHost. “We’re sure Wicker Park will delight everyone who enjoys great sushi and great service.”
