Hudson, HMSHost To Be Among Operators In Westfield’s Concessions Plans For LAX Terminal 6

Westfield has revealed its plans for 18 new dining and retail destinations that will open in Terminal 6 at Los Angeles International (LAX). The lineup includes 11 Los Angeles-area concepts and 13 concepts that are new to LAX.

The Terminal 6 concessions project is part of Westfield’s contract to redevelop major parts of LAX. In addition to Terminal 6, the developer has contracts for the airport’s Terminals 1, 2 and 3, as well as the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

“Much like Los Angeles is a collection of diverse neighborhoods woven together by boulevards, Terminal 6 will unite three disjointed buildings into a seamless experience for travelers through the best in dining, retail, design and amenities,” says Dominic Lowe, executive vice president, Westfield.

Westfield says L.A.’s Sunset Boulevard inspired the design of Terminal 6, coined The Boulevard. The firm aims to replicate the experience of traveling along Sunset Boulevard from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Coast Highway.

“The meandering curves in Bel Air and Brentwood inspired the retail and dining districts, while a calm glowing bar becomes the ultimate destination to relax or recharge before a flight,” the company says.

The new dining and retail offer will more than double the concessions offered in the existing program. There will be eight new dining options, up from five in the existing program.

HMSHost Corp., Delaware North and SSP America all will operate food and beverage concepts in the terminal. HMSHost has contracts for four locations: Blu2o, which will offer beach-inspired cuisine; Point the Way Cafe, which will feature craft beers; and two Starbucks locations.

Delaware North will operate three locations: The Habit Burger Grill, Wahoo’s Fish Taco and Earth Bar, which will feature juices and salads. SSP America has one food and beverage contract, for Osteria by Fabio Viviani, featuring old-world Italian cuisine.

Westfield’s retail partners for Terminal 6 at LAX include Hudson Group, J&H Enterprises, Tumi Inc. and World Duty Free Group, along with DFS, the duty-free operator. XpresSpa is the sole services provider.

World Duty Free Group will have five duty-paid retail locations, including Los Angeles News, Sunset News and Access Hollywood, all of which will offer travel essentials; M. Fredric, an apparel boutique; and MAC cosmetics.

Hudson Group and its joint-venture partners will offer a Belkin electronics store where shoppers will find in an array of Belkin products and electronic accessories that meet the consumer demand for power technology. The company will also bring Market 8600, a travel essentials store that is a variation on the company’s Hudson convenience concept, that will reminiscent of the 8600 block of L.A.’s Sunset Plaza.

“Market 8600 demonstrates our designers’ ability to adapt the Hudson design to embrace a local theme,” says Joe DiDomizio, president and CEO. “Outside, the LAX storefront’s digital display creates a dramatic, sophisticated L.A. neighborhood vibe. Inside, the store is pure Hudson, the next-generation travel essentials store that offers employees and travelers the items they need and the brands they trust.”

J&H Enterprises will operate a See’s Candies location and Tumi Inc. will bring its business accessories line to the terminal.

Westfield says the design will open up the interface between the original terminal and its connector to create more space and new sightlines to shopping, dining and gates. Gate lounges will feature cafe, lounge and communal seating with charging outlets.
