Hudson Riehle To Retire From National Restaurant Association

Hudson Riehle, senior vice president of the National Restaurant Association’s Research and Knowledge Group, will retire in April. Riehle, who has served in the organization for over 38 years, helped refine research processes on everything from annual sales and employment growth to the economic impacts of the 2008 recession and COVID-19 pandemic, as well as created the association’s Restaurant Operations Data Abstract, allowing operators to compare operational characteristics with similar businesses.

In addition to his role with the National Restaurant Association, Riehle was appointed by the Secretary of Labor to serve as a member of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Business Research Advisory Council, and has served as a regular subject-matter expert presenter on industry panels across the globe and in media outlets such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the Today Show, CNBC, Washington Post, MarketPlace, Nation’s Restaurant News and Restaurant Business. Chad Moutray will succeed Riehle as the Association’s senior vice president of the Research and Knowledge Group and chief economist.

“It has been a distinct privilege to work with a group of extremely talented individuals over the past 38 years,” said Riehle. “I have complete confidence that the Association’s research capabilities and staff will continue to grow and elevate the products and services the industry and our members need to evaluate their opportunities for success and expansion.”

“Hudson’s unparalleled mastery of the economic analysis of the restaurant industry has been instrumental in guiding restaurant operators through the complexities of the business landscape. His insights and expertise have not only helped our industry navigate challenges but also seize opportunities for growth and innovation,” added Michelle Korsmo, president and CEO of the National Restaurant Association. “I know I speak for all who have interacted with Hudson when I say we are incredibly grateful for his guidance and his wisdom.”
