IAH Announces D-West Pier Opening Date

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) has announced the opening date of its new Terminal D-West Pier. The D-West Pier, an IAH expansion project adding 160,000 square feet to the airport’s Terminal D,  will open to the public on October 22. The D-West Pier features six new gates (able to accommodate both wide-body and narrow-body aircrafts); a 380-foot-long LED Feature Wall providing passengers with airfield views and ambient lighting; eight new artworks by Houston-based artists; a nursing room; sensory room; child’s play area; and new, sensory-controlled restrooms.

The D-West Pier also features 16 new concessions and retail concepts, including outposts of local restaurants The Kitchen, serving contemporary, chef-forward cuisine, and The Annie, a Texas-influenced eatery by executive chef Robert Del Grande (both operated by SSP America) as well as national brands Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Einstein Bros. Bagels and Jamba Juice, all of which are set to open October 22. SSP will open an outpost of local favorite Velvet Taco and “street eats” boutique Urban Crave in 2025. On the retail front, Paradies Lagardère will operate Be Relax Spa, Jetero Market, the Houston Supply Co. (which opened in August), a Semi-Sweet Confectionary and a LEGO Store, with plans to launch a series of iShoppes duty-free stores and a Hip and Humble boutique in the future.

“We are excited to share this milestone with the residents of Houston,” said Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports. “The opening of the Terminal D-West Pier is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and our partners. This world-class facility will provide a seamless and efficient travel experience for millions of passengers each year. The new pier will provide the necessary capacity so that Houston can continue to attract more nonstop flights to cities around the globe.”
