Officials at Indianapolis International (IND) have installed a glass art exhibit in the Weir Cook Memorial Terminal that highlights milestone dates in the airport’s history.
The 12-foot-tall, 30-foot-wide exhibit includes six panels. Angled glass allows the exhibit to display elements and historical artifacts to appear suspended within the display. It includes text, etched artwork and photographic images. It’s located in the Ticketing Hall near the entrance to the Civic Plaza.
Some of the historical artwork pieces include dedication plaques, architectural drawings from the first terminal in 1931, ghosted photographs of Col. Weir Cook and an etched glass image of Cook’s WWI SPAD fighter plane.
“Our guests will enjoy this tribute to IND’s legacy, especially its unique presentation of fascinating elements from the airport’s past,” says Michael Wells, president of the Indianapolis Airport Authority Board.
