The Indianapolis Airport Authority has named Mario Rodriguez its executive director, effective early June. Rodriguez, currently executive director at Long Beach (LGB), will oversee operations at six Indianapolis-area airports, including Indianapolis International (IND).
Rodriguez will replace current Executive Director Robert Duncan, who will remain as deputy executive director during a transition period through 2014, after which he intends to return to the private practice of law with the Indianapolis firm of Norris, Choplin, and Schroeder LLP.
Rodriguez says he is “extremely honored to be given the opportunity to join the team at Indianapolis Airport Authority.”
During his tenure at LGB, a slot-regulated airport, Rodriguez oversaw the rapid expansion of JetBlue service. LGB recently completed a terminal transformation that resulted in a unique, “resort style” ambiance not typical among U.S. airports. Prior to his stint at LGB, Rodriguez was deputy director at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (MSY) and also held positions at other airports during his career.
“We are delighted to welcome Mario Rodriguez to the Indianapolis Airport Authority,” says Indianapolis Airport Authority board President Michael Wells. “His proven leadership and ability to drive success over more than 25 years in our challenging industry will strengthen our team and further our goal of growing the value that the Indianapolis International Airport, a vital economic engine for Central Indiana, creates for our region.”
