LAS Opens New $2.4B Terminal

The Clark County Department of Aviation on Wednesday opened the new Terminal 3 at Las Vegas’s McCarran International (LAS). The $2.4B terminal includes 14 gates, seven of which can be used for international arrivals. The addition will bring the airport capacity to 53 million passengers annually.

“McCarran provides the first and last impressions of Las Vegas to tens of millions of travelers each year, and with T3 we’re now well poised to serve those passengers’ needs for years to come,” said Randall Walker, Clark County director of aviation.

The new terminal includes nine food and beverage concessions and seven retail concessions, with operators including HMSHost Corp., Hudson Group and The Nuance Group.

Hudson Group president and CEO Joe DiDomizio was on hand for the opening. “We are thrilled to be here the congratulate Clark County on the opening of this remarkable new terminal, which absolutely reflects the character of Las Vegas,” he said. DiDomizio added that his company’s ongoing goal is to “continue to maximize customer service, revenue and rent to the airport and the county.”

Steven Johnson, executive vice president, business development for HMSHost, says the airport provides travelers with an outstanding dining program. “Our new Terminal 3 restaurants, including Vegas ChopHouse, La Tapenade Mediterranean Cafe, Pei Wei Asian Diner, Dewar’s Clubhouse and Starbucks are an excellent additions offering something for every traveler to enjoy.”

In addition to those dining options, the food and beverage program for Terminal 3 includes The Village Pub, Burger King, Carl’s Jr. and The Coffee Bean and Teal Leaf. On the retail and services side, the lineup includes Apricot Lane Boutique, Hudson News and Gifts, Nuance Duty Free, Vegas Special Tees, Welcome to Las Vegas, World of Sports and XpresSpa.

Other attributes of the new terminal include space for two Transportation Security Administration checkpoints with up to 31 lanes; an eight-story garage with room for nearly 6,000 vehicles; more than a dozen stores and restaurants; and an automated tram system that enables Terminal 3 to handle the check-in, security and baggage claim needs of up to 26 gates at LAS’s nearby D Concourse.

The new Terminal 3 has adopted several technology-forward amenities. Each check-in area is equipped with kiosks that allow passengers on participating air carriers to tag their own checked baggage, a time-saving initiative.  In addition, each of T3’s 14 E gates has self-check-in equipment to ease the boarding process. Nearby, 14 video pylons support multiple monitors that display imagery and weather conditions for the destination cities of aircraft the E gates serve. LAS’s practice of providing free public wireless Internet access has also been extended to allow the Wi-Fi signal to be used by passengers on aircraft that are parked at any of T3’s gates.
