LGA Employees To Have Heads Shaved In Fight Against Childhood Cancer

More than 20 LaGuardia (LGA) employees are losing their hair – intentionally.

The Food & Shops at the airport and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey are participating in the fourth annual St. Baldrick’s Shave Event on May 12.

St. Baldrick’s, a charity that funds research for children’s cancers, is honoring 5-year-old Luke Lang this year, who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Participating airport employees will be shaved by licensed barbers to their support for Luke and all children battling cancer. In its fourth year, the event has raised more than $75,000 and hopes to surpass $100,000 in May.

“We’re honored to participate in this worthy cause for the fourth consecutive year.” says Lillian Tan, vice president and general manager of MarketPlace Development, the retail development company that manages the Food & Shops program at LaGuardia’s Terminal B. “The event rallies our airport community around helping children who are suffering with cancer and brings awareness to an issue that is close to all our hearts. We thank our partners for their generous contributions and participation.”

The event will be from 12 to 2 p.m. in Terminal B. Passengers traveling through the terminal can contribute to donation boxes that have been installed at all store locations, or online at the LGA Cares event page, www.stbaldricks.org. Restaurants including Angelina’s Metro Market, Asian Chao, Au Bon Pain, Auntie Anne’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Fix Bakery & Cafe, Figs and MexiJoe’s Grill will provide free lunch cards to everyone who donates. Hudson Group will supply goodie bags for those who get shaved, and Five Guys Burgers and Fries will donate a portion of its sales on the day of the event.
