Lopano Outlines Goals For TPA In 1st Board Meeting

Joe Lopano, the new executive director at Tampa International (TPA), opened his first meeting of 2011 saying that his “honored to be here in Tampa as part of this aviation authority team.”

“Working with the board of directors, my strategy is to strengthen Tampa International which will benefit the Tampa Bay area,” he said. “My immediate priorities will be to listen and understand. My team and I will be very diligent in ensuring that we are listening to our stakeholders – from board members to local citizens, travelers, airlines and our employees.”

Lopano said his priorities include maintaining excellence in customer service and enhancing where possible; make the airport more competitive; increase the airport’s presence and positive impact on the region; and ensuring open, transparent and efficient processes to simplify the business.

“Through this process we will gain a very good understanding of the needs and wants of our constituents, and begin to formulate and execute plans,” he said.

Lopano also will assess senior staff, as well as do a review of airport procurement processes.

In other board of directors news, Hillsborough County Commissioner Victor Crist has replaced Ken Hagan, who served on the board for four years.
