MarketPlace PHL Honors Black History Month With Jazz Series And Photography

MarketPlace PHL, the company that manages restaurant and retail concessions at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), will launch its winter Jazz Series on Feb. 1 in honor of Black History Month. The Jazz Series will take place every Thursday in February from 4-5 p.m., and it debuts celebrated African American art.

The Jazz Series will include performances by the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble, led by Warren “Butch” Oree. MarketPlace PHL has also partnered with the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection to showcase historical photos by John W. Mosely, a 20th-century Philadelphia photojournalist whose work chronicles segregation and Philadelphia’s black community from the 1930s to the 1960s. Mosely’s photographs will be on display on the B/C and F Food Court tables for the month of February.

“We are more than proud to honor Black History Month this February,” says Mel Hannah, vice president and general manager of MarketPlace PHL. “To feature the sounds of smooth jazz and famous photography within two of the airport’s food courts, our travelers are definitely in for a treat.”
