MCI Breaks Ground On 3rd Building In Intermodal BusinessCentre

Construction on the third building of Kansas City International’s (MCI) Intermodal BusinessCentre has begun.

The Intermodal BusinessCentre is a master-planned business park on airport property. When finished, the project will include 5.4 million square feet of space and eventually might include air cargo and freight facilities adjoining two runways at MCI.

The building under construction, referred to as LogisticsCentre IV, will be a light manufacturing/warehouse/distribution space located on about 26 acres. It is being developed on a speculative basis, meaning no tenants have leased any of the space before beginning construction. The space is being developed through a joint venture between Clarion Partners and Trammel Crow Co.

LogisticsCentre IV will accommodate three tenants, with each having its own entrance. It is scheduled for completion in March.

“Several years ago, the aviation department embarked on an ambitious plan to spur aviation and non-aviation related development at KCI Airport to attract greater numbers of well-paying jobs to the area,” says Mark VanLoh, aviation director. “Securing Blount International as the first tenant at KCI Intermodal BusinessCentre was a huge step forward in implementing that plan. This was followed by LogisticsCentre II, which was successfully leased prior to completion and expanded for a Tier One GM auto supplier who now occupies the entire 423,000 square feet in LogisticsCentre II. This most recent GM-supplier project validates the KCI/Northland submarket as a key component to overall Kansas City industrial market that is bringing high paying, diverse jobs to the entire metropolitan area.”
