With a new terminal set to open next year, the Kansas City Aviation Department this week unveiled an extensive rebrand effort that unifies the organization and the two world-class entities it operates at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Kansas City Wheeler Downtown Airport (MKC).
The changes include a revised shared logo, brand fonts and a green and blue color palette, reflecting a positive path forward for all three entities. This rebrand comes at an important time in the department’s history, as a 39-gate, $1.5 billion terminal is slated to open at KCI in March, providing a contemporary front door to the community.
“Today is an exciting day in Kansas City’s rich aviation history,” said Pat Klein, Kansas City Aviation Department director. “Our revised branding and visual identity not only represents our organization today, but sets the stage for where we are heading – onward and upward.”
With the rebrand, Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport’s name changed to Kansas City Wheeler Downtown Airport, to serve as a “marketing name.” This change comes after significant research and holds the goal of better connecting the airport name to the city it serves.
Kansas City Aviation Department worked with its agency of record, Trozzolo Communications Group, to oversee the department’s rebrand efforts. Kansas City Aviation Department also plans to launch updated websites for itself, KCI, and MKC later this year.
