MCO Adds to Relief for Concessionaires

The Board of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has voted to provide more economic relief for concessionaires, rental car firms and other firms working at Orlando International Airport (MCO), the third time the board has stepped up with support to help businesses at the airport.

The GOAA Board added approximately $19 million in relief, though as a condition for receiving the relief, MCO business partners must submit a reopening plan detailing employee hiring and how they will scale up as traffic returns.

“The Board realizes that the pandemic has impacted everyone, especially our concessions,” said Phil Brown, CEO of the GOAA.  “Our objective is to try to help the concessions to stay afloat, provide the Orlando Experience and meet customer demand. They will only be able to start rehiring or bringing furloughed employees back when the traffic returns.”

The GOAA said the airport had an operating loss of $40.4 million in 2020, as compared to a positive overall operating income of $68.1 million the previous year.
