MEM Releases First Business Diversity Development Report

Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority, which oversees Memphis International (MEM), has released its first annual Business Diversity Development report.

The report says that disadvantaged, minority and women business enterprises were awarded 27 percent of the $46 million total spent in construction, professional services and goods, and service contracts. Additionally, 95 percent of that portion was awarded to local businesses.

The report also highlighted areas for potential growth in participation from these enterprises, such as pavement joint resealing, fuel management, professional services, legal services and financial management.

Future goals and plans listed in the report include launching a new online process in January 2018 to decrease certification times, creating a mentoring program for the airport authority’s joint pavement sealing contract and creating a shelter market program to boost direct spending.

“MSCAA is proud of our business diversity development department’s accomplishments in leading the airport’s minority participation efforts,” says Scott Brockman, president and CEO of MSCAA. “This reports highlights these accomplishments but also emphasizes our commitment and determination to continual improvement and growth in our diversity efforts.”
