MIA Fine Arts Program Adds Short Films, Video

The Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs Program at Miami International (MIA) has added short films and video artwork to its repertoire this month with the launch of Waypoint, a 110-inch video wall display in the airport’s South Terminal.

The display features documentary films about artists creating their work and video art by established and emerging artists.

The exhibition’s first two programs, which will debut this fall, were produced by Waypoint co-developers and contemporary art filmmakers Wet Heat Project. Miami Artists at Work features several local artists firmed while working in their studios. Making Their Mark features two short films detailing the work of New World School of the Arts college students producing public art projects.

“Waypoint adds an exciting new dimension to our fine arts program at MIA by giving travelers a glimpse into how artists create work,” said Yolanda Sanchez, director of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs Division. “It’s like an open window into the making of contemporary art, and future programs will feature site-specific video artwork.”
