Miami International (MIA) has put the works of five local artists on display at the airport.
“Natural Curiosities” shows views of nature via five forms of mixed media.
Jennifer Basile’s contribution is a three-dimensional, 16-foot forest made of plywood and permanent market. Regina Jestrow used fabric constructions to show the formation of cell structures. For Carrie Sieh’s part, she used knitted-wire formations that fall from the ceiling in strands and clusters, much like fruit vines. Using wood clothespins, Gerry Stecca created a structure that resembles plants in a terrarium. Liza Sylvestre chose watercolor as her medium, showing images such as the play of light on water or sand on the beach.
“The work of each artist, both with respect to the choice of medium and final expression. reflects a unique vision and relationship to nature, shifting the focus in a range from the cellular to the macro level,” says Yolanda Sanchez, director of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department’s Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs Division, which is presenting the showing.
The exhibit runs through October and can be found in MIA’s Central Terminal Gallery, past the Concourse E checkpoint.
